The United Arab Emirates will invest $6.5 billion in Angola under 44 strategic agreements aimed at boosting economic growth, expanding trade, and deepening diplomatic cooperation between the two nations.
Julio Maiato, Angola’s Ambassador to the UAE, described the partnership as “one of the most dynamic and strategically significant along the Africa–Gulf corridor.”
“Fifty years after independence, Angola has evolved from a post-conflict nation into a respected economic and diplomatic power with growing influence across Africa,” Maiato said. He also highlighted Angola’s leadership role in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and its chairmanship of the African Union, underscoring the country’s contribution to regional peace, stability, and unity.
The investment package will focus on three core sectors, demonstrating how UAE expertise and investment are driving Angola’s economic diversification while creating shared prosperity:
- Energy: UAE-based Masdar is expanding renewable energy projects in Angola, leveraging the country’s vast solar potential to advance a sustainable energy transition.
- Agriculture: Partnerships with Angola’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will aim to boost productivity, improve governance, and strengthen regional food security.
- Infrastructure: Collaborations with AD Ports Group and DP World are transforming Angola’s port and logistics infrastructure, enhancing trade connectivity and generating employment opportunities.
With the newly announced strategic agreements, the partnership between Angola and the UAE is entering a new stage, expanding from investment projects only to broader cooperation in areas such as the economy, technology, security, and diplomacy. Both countries share a long-term goal of promoting sustainable development and mutual growth.
Covering fields like artificial intelligence, renewable energy, infrastructure, and customs cooperation, the investments are expected to create thousands of jobs and strengthen Angola’s links with regional and global markets. This growing cooperation highlights a shared effort to boost economic and diplomatic ties across Africa and the Arab world, positioning the Angola–UAE relationship as a model for cross-regional collaboration.
